The importance of accents
Welcome back! Accents define who we are in a way, opens up a new door to our identity, a new feature that makes us unique and stand out from others. It is important to remember to not forget our own personal accents as it makes us more special. A quotation from a topical issue says the following: ‘It is important that we teach children that, to get on, they must speak Standard English with an RP accent’. In my opinion this is wrong, individuals don't have to have an RP accent to fit in, fitting in to society is natural you don't have to change in order to fit in. You are who you are if people don't respect that and tell you to change that's wrong and the individual shouldn't even take changing into consideration because they are unique the way they are.
